Bottle Rockets
On October 13th, the Explorers will be constructing and launching bottle rockets that are assembled from 2-Liter soda bottles.  The Explorers will be adding fins, nosecones, parachutes, and other items to increase accuracy, reduce drag, and improve flight time.  The design and construction of the rocket is left to the students.  The students will utilize engineering to determine which components improve the rockets’ performance.

After the design and construction phase, the Explorers will go outside to launch the rockets.  The rockets will be partially filled with water to provide fuel then, the rockets will be pressurized with air (on the launch pad) to provide power.  The rockets will be launched to determine their flight time.

Explorers are asked to bring an empty 2-Liter soda bottle to construct a rocket with.  Other materials such as cardboard, paper, tape, string, trash-bags (for a parachute), foam-board, etc… will be provided at the meeting.  Tools such as scissors will also be provided.

Explorers are welcome to bring any other items or materials with them to assist with the construction of the rockets.
