Welcome to the ASCE
Student Chapter
|
|
() This
page is here to inform past, present, and future members about our
organization and the activities we participate in.
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is
one of the oldest professional organizations in the nation. Membership in
this student chapter is only the beginning of a career in which you will
have the opportunity to influence the lives of millions of people around
you.
Our student chapter is here to supplement the
education you will receive in the classroom with intercollegiate
competitions, volunteer work, guest speakers, and field trips. The most
significant thing we can do as a chapter is get you the students involved
in the surrounding community and with each other academically. The most
notable of out student activities is the Carolinas Conference. This is an opportunity
for you to creatively apply the technical skills you have worked so hard to
develop in the classroom.
Typical events include:
· Concrete Canoe
· Steel Bridge
· Balsa Wood
Bridge
· Geotechnical Design
· Environmental Design
· Quiz Bowl
· Technical Paper
Aside from these activities we participate in
community service activities such as Habitat for Humanity and
Adopt-a-Highway. ASCE is not all work and no play though. We do include
some fun activities like picnics, socials, and fieldtrips.
Now all you have to do to find out more is contact
me or any other officer via e-mail, or better yet come to one of our
meetings. Lunch is typically provided ($2 for non-members, free for
members) and meeting times are posted around the Smith Building
and in the CE office (Smith 264). Hope to see you around!
