Graduate Programs

For the advanced study of engineering, science and technology, the College of Engineering offers masters' and doctoral degrees.  Graduate studies are more specialized, and students work closely with nationally known professors and Charlotte community partners.

The diversity and flexibility of graduate programs give students a number of options to tailor their studies.  Classes are scheduled to accommodate full-time and working students, with a number of classes held at night.

The master's degree programs follow either research-oriented or practice-oriented tracks. Thesis and non-thesis options are available in some degree programs.  All three engineering departments offer early-entry masters' programs.  Students who meet GPA requirements in their senior year may taken classes that count for both the BS and MS degrees.

Master's Programs

For students with BS degrees in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering, the college offers a Master of Science (MS) in Civil Engineering, MS in Electrical Engineering, and MS in Mechanical Engineering, respectively.  For students who majored in subjects other than civil, electrical or mechanical engineering, a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) program is also available.  The college also offers an MS in Engineering Management for the advanced study of the management of engineering.

For undergraduate students who have decided to pursue a master's degree, the Civil, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical engineering departments offer five-year degree programs that culminate in the award of a Master of Science degree.

Doctoral Programs

The college offers doctoral studies in the pursuit of Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.  The university also offers an interdisciplinary Ph.D in Infrastructure and Environmental Systems , a program that is attractive to many civil engineers.  Students acquire a breadth of knowledge in their core discipline and a depth of knowledge in a chosen research specialty.

All Ph.D. programs involve interdisciplinary areas of research.  Students work and study with research faculty from a number of colleges and departments.  Doctoral programs involve research projects that are often inspired by industrial sponsors.
