How do I apply?

  1. Complete the on-line application using the Housing and Residence Life Nyumba Student Gateway.
  2. Complete a Housing Contract
Students accepted into the LC will be notified in January, April, and June.
  3. Pay the $100 housing deposit.

Do I have to complete both a Housing Contract and a LC Application?

Yes. Completing only a Housing Contract is not enough to participate in the Learning Community. Students submitting a LC application without a Housing Contract will not be considered for the LC.

When should I apply?

As soon as possible. There is a limited number of spaces available in the residence hall.

In which Residence Hall is the LC held?

FLC students will be assigned to Hawthorn Hall.

Why is Hawthorn Hall not listed as one of the Housing options?

Hawthorn Hall is reserved for the College of Engineering Freshman Learning Community.  The only way to be assigned to Hawthorn is by being accepted into the College of Engineering Freshman Learning Community Application.  When completing the  Housing application choose any other Housing option.  Once accepted into the FLC you will be assigned to Hawthorn Hall.

What kind of rooms can I expect?

Each room in Hawthorn houses ONLY FOUR students. All rooms are suites.

Can I select my roommates?

Yes! Please complete the roomate request form and mail it or fax it as soon as possible.

I have been accepted into the FLC. What are the next steps?

Sign up for SOAR (Student Orientation Advising and Registration). During SOAR you will need to take a Math Placement Test which is basically Algebra. Make sure you brush up on your Algebra skills. If you do not place in Calc I, your graduation could be delayed anywhere from one semester to a year. For more information visit Placement Testing in Mathematics.
