For details on the College of Engineering's Personal Computer Support recommendations for backing up data, see our backup guidelines . We recommend a variety of software, including Microsoft's built-in backup utility for both Windows XP and Vista, as well as SyncBack (see Tutorial Section for details on its use). PCS currently supports only Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Mac OS X operating systems.

For onsite warranty work on your PC system with Dell, Apple Mac or other vendors, contact the vendor and indicate that you are a student on a campus residence. You should inform the vendor that the tech representative will need to have identification and that you must escort the tech representative while in the residence hall. Be sure to have a photo ID with you to ensure to any campus building management that you are a student.

For internet connection support, Time Warner technical support has an office in Maple Hall staffed by UNCC students who work from 1:00pm - 7:00pm Monday - Friday and 1:00pm - 5:00pm Saturday and Sunday. Students may contact them by calling the on-campus number (x73778). This center is able to remotely check the cable modems status and schedule a student tech visit to the students room. When an appointment is made for service, students must be present in their room, suite, or apartment for the techs to gain access to their room.

If your PC is stolen, we recommend you contact the proper authorities (CMPD in an off-campus instance, Campus Police if on-campus) and your insurance company as soon as possible. We also recommend that you purchase and install Computrace, a software product that register your PC with a centralized server and when reported stolen will activate a trace process that will help identify the location and aid in the recovery process of your stolen PC system.
