OverviewWelcome to the College of Engineering Personal Computer Support page. This site contains valuable information for faculty, staff, and students pertaining to their personal computers. The PC Support Help Desk is located in the Smith building, room 202a and provides walk-in and phone support for College of Engineering faculty, staff, and students. We also offer PC & Macintosh system purchasing consultation for both incoming and current students, as well as guidance with campus-owned PC system purchasing by faculty and staff. Buying a computer can be a difficult process if the purchaser is not knowledgeable about their options. Please feel free to contact the PCS Help Desk if you have any questions or concerns about an upcoming purchase. While it is not a requirement for College of Engineering students to own a computer, many prefer to have their own computers for a variety of reasons. While a home system won't have any Engineering software, it can be very useful for everyday school-related work. Students may also run Engineering applications via Mosaic's MosaicAnywhere remote desktop server pool.
NOTE: NOTE: With the beginning of the
Fall 2008 semester, newly admitted College
of Engineering freshman students are expected
(but not required) to own a PC for personal use. Existing
College of Engineering students and transfer students are
encouraged to own and use a PC, and will be provided the
same support by PCS.
Computer SupportPCS assists faculty, students, and staff with their non-Mosaic computer problems. PCS has the resources and knowledge to address software issues, but we cannot offer a solution to hardware based problems for students. However, PCS will diagnose any problem with the resources currently available to the best of our ability. For faculty and staff, if the PC system is campus-owned and made by Dell or Apple, the PCS group can help coordinate the warranty work on the system via qualified technicians in ITS.
