What is GIMP?

GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program, and GIMP is a graphic editing program.. It is free software licensed under the GNU General Public License, and available for home use.  It is similar in nature to Adobe Photoshop, but was originally developed for a non-Windows platform. GIMP allows for image editing, and is useful for anyone submitting anything with images.
