Using OpenAFS on Windows NT/2000/XP to Connect to Mosaic

After you have installed and set up OpenAFS it is very easy to connect to your Mosaic files.

If you configured OpenAFS to start automatically when you login then you should see the padlock icon in the right corner of your screen.

If you don't see the lock icon navigate down through the menu system and start the AFS service.

Or double clicking on the lock icon will bring up the AFS Client window.

Clicking on the "Obtain New Tokens" gives you the above window.  You may now enter your Mosaic userid and password.  It's a good idea to make sure the "AFS Cell" is set to UNCC.

If you haven't previously defined your drive mappings click on the "Drive Letters" tab.  A window similar to the one below should appear.

Choose the "Drive Letters" tab then choose "Add".

In our example shown above  we have chosen to use Drive Letter U (for unix). You will have to enter the path to your home directory on Mosaic. If you don't know your home directory path click here to look up the path to your home directory. If you want to map to your H: drive use the same "AFS Path" with the addition of "\pc". You must also decide if you want to restore this mapping every time that you login.

Once logged in, the AFS client window will show the token information and everything should be functional. An example of how the token window will look once properly logged in is shown above. Note that the window gives you information about your tokens and tells you when they expire (your connection must be re-validated every 25 hours by using the "Obtain new tokens" button or you will be denied access to your files). If you want the system to warn you before they expire you may click the box below the token information. Each time the computer reboots, you will be asked to re-input your password in order for the client to re-connect to Mosaic.
