 Jack Stein
Assistant Dean and Director for Engineering Computing
Phone: (704) 687-6625 Jack Stein heads the COE Engineering Computing group. Jack's career has spanned computer technology in both industry and the educational environment. Jack was Director of Product Development for an embedded Linux company (TimeSys); a Director of Software Development at a software and hardware company (Inrange) and Director of ATM adapter software for a networking company (FORE System). Jack also spent considerable time at the Computer Center of Carnegie Mellon University where he managed software development for campus wide services such as email, and the Andrew File System. Jack graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with an MS degree in Computer Science. Jack spends his spare time with his wife gardening and ball room dancing.
Chad DeWitt Phone: (704) 687-6091 Chad DeWitt helps to manage the Windows systems within Mosaic. Originally a Mosaic TA, he graduated from UNC-Charlotte in 1998 as a Computer Science major and has returned after eight years of working in the financial IT industry.
Rodney Dyer Phone: (704) 687-3518 Rodney Dyer is in charge of systems programming for all PC, x86, and Microsoft Windows XP technologies. Rodney has been a part of Mosaic since its inception in 1992, first as a student-worker while earning his degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and later as a full time employee upon his graduation in 1996.
Jason Edgecombe Phone: (704) 687-3514 Jason is responsible for the Linux and Solaris builds. Jason graduated from the UNC Charlotte College of Engineering and came to Mosaic after spending 3 years as the Linux administrator for the Department of Mathematics & Statistics and 3 years as the Web Developer & Linux Administrator for the College of Arts & Sciences Dean's office.
Terry Rhodes Phone: (704) 687-3517 Terry Rhodes is responsible for day to day operations of Mosaic computer systems including both desktop and network server machines. He came to the University from Duke Energy Corporation in 1987 and has a broad background in hardware and network administration.
Wes Simineau Phone: (704) 687-6597 Wes Simineau has primary responsibility for managing Electrical Engineering and Electrical Engineering Technology applications and is backup administrator for our XP network. Wes is a 1996 graduate of UNCC's Electrical Engineering program and joined Engineering Computing in 2004 after eight years of working in industry.
Dave Whisler Phone: (704) 687-3964 Dave Whisler performs all Oracle and MySQL Database application development and administration for Mosaic. He has nearly 20 years of IT experience, joining Mosaic in 1999 after almost 10 years working at places like BC/BS of SC and Carolinas HealthCare System. He graduated in 1990 with a degree in Management Information Systems from Grove City College.
Armando Castaneda Phone: (704) 687-4894 With 20 years in the computer industry, Armando is well versed in many aspects in this profession. Most recently he was employed by the Sun-Sentinel newspaper in South Florida where he was responsible for over 600 users in 5 locations. As the new Technology Support Specialist he will guide the Mosaic Helpdesk and PCS Group to the next level in customer service.
Sean Desgraves Phone: (704) 687-3940 Sean Desgraves is a person who loves his toys - from handheld PCs to tools in the home. He likes to keep up with the latest advances in information and technology. He is also a people person who enjoys helping people with their computing needs. He has found technology fascinating ever since he can remember and continues to be amazed and captivated by the fantastic ideas that are transformed into technological reality. He enjoys sports - bowling, basketball, golf, football, tennis, fishing, etc. However, he prefers playing them more than watching them on TV. At home, he is a do-it-yourselfer who rarely finds himself bored because he always has something to do to keep him busy. |
