Mosaic users are given a default disk quota based on the following:
| Faculty, staff, and graduate students |
4GB |
| Undergraduate Students |
2GB |
Remember, all Mosaic based storage is backed up on a daily basis. To see your current disk quota allocation, open a DOS console in Windows or a Terminal Console in Unix or Linux and enter the following command:
U:\>fs lq
| Volume Name |
Quota |
Used |
%Used |
Partition |
| user.joeuser |
2000000 |
1000000 |
50% |
34% |
Once you have used at least 95% of your disk quota, you will be presented with a warning everytime you log in. Once you are over quota, you will not be allowed to log in to Mosaic and must visit the Help Desk in order to lower your disk usage. This form is used to request an increase in your disk quota allocation.
Definition of Terms
- Check your disk quota: At a command prompt, enter: fs lq this command lists your disk quota allocation and how much of that quota is used.
- Disk quota: Each user's volume (home directory) has a quota assigned by the system administrator. This quota determines the maximum storage space allowed in the volume.
- Actual Space: The amount of data currently stored on disk. The actual disk space used is typically less than the quota.
- Over Quota: Condition which arises when a volume (home directory) has more actual disk space used than the volume's quota limit.
- Over Quota Problems: Being over quota results in the operating system refusing to store any more data in the volume. A warning message is given at 90% utilization. Problems with printing saved files and with logging in can occur. Ultimately, you will not be allowed to login.
Please read our Policy on Additional User Disk Quota
NOTE:
- If you are given additional quota, that quota will automatically expire at a predetermined time. (Your data will not be lost.) If at that time you still need the additional quota, you have to re-submit a new quota request form.
- Students will need a faculty or staff member to sponsor their extra disk quota.
- There is no special form for an extension of previously allotted quota. All types of quota requests are handled using the same request form.
