What is a 49ership?

The 49ership Program is offered by the University Career Center. It provides opportunities for you to gain career-related experience before you graduate. You can

· Participate in a non-credit internship experience that lasts one or more semesters.

· Get a notation on your transcript when you register through the Career Center and pay the $60.00 university fee.

· Gain real-world experience before you graduate.

· Work part-time in the fall and/or spring and either part-time or full-time in the summer.

· Earn a competitive salary.

What are the eligibility requirements?

You must be a full-time student, in good academic standing, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 You must have completed your freshman-level courses or, if you are a transfer student, you must have completed 12 credit hours as an undergraduate student or six credit hours as a graduate student. You must commit to working a minimum of 80 hours over five weeks in a given semester. Finally, you must pay a $60 co-op fee during the work semesters to maintain your full-time student status thus enabling you to use university housing, health center, and financial aid.

If you wish to earn academic credit for a work experience you should consider the Cooperative Education (Co-op) program. If you are engaged in a research project with an industry employer you may wish to request academic credit via a special topics or research course. Contact your academic advisor or undergraduate coordinator for more information.

Graduate students may enroll in an Industrial Internship course for academic credit. For more information contact your academic advisor or graduate coordinator to discuss the requirements.
