What are the benefits of participating in an international experience?

There are many personal and professional benefits of participating in an international experience. Learning about another culture expands your horizons and makes you a well-rounded person. Learning about how other cultures practice engineering is critical in a global economy. Graduates who have international experiences are more highly recruited and often times receive higher starting salaries than other students.

What kinds of international experiences are offered by the College of Engineering?

The University Office of Education Abroad offers a variety of programs that allow students to study abroad. Although you might think it might be difficult to study engineering or engineering technology in another country, it’s not! The Office of Education Abroad has negotiated agreements with several engineering institutions. They offer a variety of scholarships that help defray the cost of participation. Our students are highly successful in competing for these scholarships.

Civil & Environmental Engineering majors can inquire with Dr. Jim Bowen about the summer ENSIL program. This program is a short-course study aboard program available in France each summer.  Please contact Dr. Jim Bowen for more information and the application.

The College of Engineering will NOT offer the International Internship Exchange Program to France for summer 2009.
We are currently evaluating options for students to internationalize their educational experience.
For questions, contact Linda Thurman in Smith 266, 704-687-4415 or
