Chair, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites nominations and applications for ECE department chair. Candidates should possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and have a record commensurate with appointment as Professor. A Ph.D. degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related areas is required.

The chair will provide vision and leadership in expanding the ECE teaching and research programs, including hiring new faculty and assisting in the planning and the move to a new building. The new home for the ECE department is currently under design and is one of several new buildings in the Charlotte Research Institute that houses the College of Engineering , the Center for Precision Metrology, the Center for Biomedical Engineering Systems, the Center for Optoelectronics and Optical Communications, the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center , and the Center for Bioinformatics. The ECE department is an active participant in the Institute and its Centers. The department's 28 faculty have well established research programs, and are engaged in interdisciplinary research which is encouraged by the college and university and through a number of interdisciplinary graduate degree programs. The department offers the EE and CE degrees at the B.S. level and EE degrees at the M.S. and Ph.D. levels with approximately 400 undergraduate and 170 graduate students.

UNC Charlotte is a doctoral, research intensive university and one of the largest institutions of the UNC system with over 23,000 students in seven colleges and a projected enrollment of 35,000 over the next decade. The university is located in an attractive suburban setting on a wooded campus of over 900 acres. Charlotte , the largest city in the Carolinas , is located in a metropolitan area of over one million, and enjoys dynamic growth and a moderate climate. North Carolina strongly supports higher education and state appropriation for the university system ranks 5 th in the nation.

Assistant / Associate Professor

Multiple Tenure-Track Positions

 

Applications for multiple tenure-track positions in Construction Management are invited for an a nticipated start date of August 15, 2008 .

The Department currently enrolls about 700 students in five disciplines. The Construction Management program, which was launched in 2006, currently enrolls 60 undergraduate students; the program is anticipated to grow to about 300 students.

Candidates with expertise in any area of construction are sought to include Construction Law / Contracts, Building Codes, Building Systems, Commercial Construction, Design/Build; Construction Methods & Materials, Design/Build and Other Alternative Delivery Methods, Green Construction, Sustainability and Facilities Management.

Expectations of successful candidates include the development of a strong record of scholarship (including external funding), quality undergraduate teaching, and professional and university service. Candidates must possess excellent leadership, organizational, teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills, and must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment that serves a diverse student population. 

Required qualifications include minimum of three years of US construction industry experience and a Masters Degree in Construction Management, Building Construction, Building Science, Architecture, Engineering, or a closely related degree. A record of scholarship, exceptional professional contributions, an earned doctorate, teaching and/or ACCE accreditation experience is preferred. Assistant professor,Systems modeling and optimization

THE SYSTEMS ENGINEERING AND ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (SEEM) AT THE WILLIAM STATES LEE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHARLOTTE is currently seeking candidates for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the area of systems engineering, systems modeling and optimization who can teach manufacturing related courses (preferably) starting January 2009. Preference will be given to candidates with a stochastic and simulation modeling background. The ideal candidate will (a) have a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management or a related field; (b) seek external funding actively and develop a strong research program; (c) demonstrate potential in publishing in top journals; (d) have a strong commitment to teaching excellence; (e) actively contribute to the further development and growth of the SEEM Program; and (f) have the ability and interest to work closely with industry.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity of participating in multidisciplinary projects with the Center for Lean Logistics & Engineered Systems at UNC Charlotte. UNC Charlotte is a doctoral, research intensive university located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas on an expanding modern campus. It is part of one of the oldest public university systems in the United States.
