Dr. Andrew Willis
Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering
Dr. Andrew Willis has joined the Lee College of Engineering as an assistant professor in the electrical and computer engineering department. He is teaching Digital Signal Processing ECGR4124/5124 this fall and in the spring will be teaching Applied Computer Graphics ECGR4103/5103.
Education and Career
Andrew received his undergraduate B.Sc. degrees in Computer Science (1994) and Electrical Engineering (1995) while studying at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester , Massachusetts . Afterwards, he spent four years traveling extensively for the purpose of designing and installing high-speed control systems for use in the steel industry.
In 1998, Andrew returned to the United States to study at the Brown University graduate school in Providence , Rhode Island . There, he studied mathematics and engineering science while simultaneously providing consultation to Analog Devices on the first hardware implementation of the JPEG2000 standard (originally the ADVJP2000, now the ADV202). During his pursuit of a Ph.D., Andrew obtained a Sc.M. in Applied Mathematics and a Sc.M. in Electrical Engineering ultimately completing his Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences in 2004. He is a member of the IEEE, ACM, AAAS and Sigma Xi.
Research
His research focuses on topics in computer vision, pattern recognition, medical and natural image processing, and the general field of processing discrete geometries in multiple dimensions .
